Culturally Safe NDIS Support: Care in Your Language

    NDIS Resources2 min read

Good disability support respects who you are — your language, your culture and your community. For many families in Central Australia, finding culturally safe care makes all the difference. At Glory Care Services, cultural responsiveness is at the heart of what we do.

Why cultural safety matters in disability care

When support is delivered in a way that honours your background, you feel understood and respected. Cultural safety builds trust, improves communication, and leads to better outcomes — especially for personal and sensitive care.

    Care in your language

Language should never be a barrier to quality care. Glory Care provides translating and interpreting support in Kiswahili, Sudanese Arabic and Dinka, so you and your family can communicate clearly and confidently with your support team.

Supporting multicultural and Aboriginal communities in Central Australia

Alice Springs is home to a rich diversity of cultures, including Aboriginal communities and growing African and multicultural communities. We take the time to understand each person’s background and deliver support that fits their values and way of life.

What culturally responsive support looks like day to day

    • Matching you with workers who understand your culture where possible.
    • Interpreting and translating so nothing is lost in communication.
    • Respecting food, family, faith and community in how care is delivered.
    • Listening first — your voice guides your support.

How to access culturally safe support

If culturally responsive care matters to you or someone you love, we would be glad to help. Learn more about Glory Care, explore our services, or get in touch today.

    Frequently asked questions

Self-Managed vs Plan-Managed vs Agency-Managed: Which NDIS Option Is Right for You?

Self-Managed vs Plan-Managed vs Agency-Managed: Which NDIS Option Is Right for You?

    NDIS Resources2 min read

How you manage your NDIS funding affects how much choice and control you have — and how much admin you take on. There are three options, and you can even combine them. Here is how each one works.

The three ways to manage your NDIS funding

    Agency-managed (NDIA-managed)

The NDIA pays your providers directly. It is the simplest option with no paperwork for you, but you can only use registered NDIS providers.

    Plan-managed

A plan manager pays your invoices and tracks your budget for you. You get more choice of providers (registered and non-registered) without the admin. The plan management fee is funded separately and does not come out of your other budgets.

    Self-managed

You manage your own funding, pay providers and keep records. This gives you the most flexibility and control, including the ability to negotiate rates, but it comes with more responsibility.

Pros and cons at a glance

    • Agency-managed — easiest; registered providers only.
    • Plan-managed — flexibility with little admin; a great middle ground for many families.
    • Self-managed — maximum control; more bookkeeping and responsibility.

    Which is right for you?

There is no single right answer — it depends on how much control you want and how much admin you are comfortable with. Many participants start agency- or plan-managed and move to self-managed as they gain confidence.

    Working with Glory Care

Glory Care Services works with participants under any management type. Whichever you choose, we make support simple. Contact us to talk through what suits you, or read more on our NDIS information page.

    Frequently asked questions

Does plan management cost me money?

No. Plan management is funded separately in your NDIS plan and does not reduce your other support budgets.

    Can I use non-registered providers?

Yes, if you are plan-managed or self-managed. Agency-managed participants must use registered providers.

Can I change how my plan is managed?

Yes. You can request a change to your plan management at a plan review or by contacting the NDIA.

Understanding Your NDIS Plan: Core, Capacity Building & Capital Explained

Understanding Your NDIS Plan: Core, Capacity Building & Capital Explained

    NDIS Resources2 min read

When your NDIS plan arrives, the budgets and categories can be overwhelming. Understanding how your funding is structured helps you use it well and reach your goals faster. Here is what each part of your plan means.

    The three NDIS budget types

    Core Supports

Core Supports help with everyday activities and your disability-related needs. This is usually the most flexible budget and covers things like personal care, household tasks, transport and community participation.

    Capacity Building Supports

Capacity Building helps you build skills and independence over time — such as developing life skills, improving health and wellbeing, or working toward employment and study goals. These funds are allocated to specific categories.

    Capital Supports

Capital Supports cover higher-cost items like assistive technology, equipment or home modifications. This budget can only be used for its stated purpose.

    Flexible vs stated budgets

Core Supports are generally flexible, meaning you can move funding between categories. Capacity Building and Capital budgets are usually “stated” — they must be spent on what the plan specifies. Knowing the difference helps you avoid surprises.

How to make your plan go further

    • Map your goals to the right budget category before you start spending.
    • Choose providers who help you plan, not just deliver hours.
    • Review your spending regularly so funds last the full plan period.

Matching our services to your budget

Our team can help you understand which of our services fit your funded categories so your plan works hard for you. Ready to start? See how to get started.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Core and Capacity Building?

Core Supports help with everyday activities and are usually flexible. Capacity Building helps you build skills and independence over time and is allocated to specific categories.

Can I move funding between budgets?

You can usually move funding within Core Supports, but Capacity Building and Capital budgets are stated and must be used for their specified purpose.

  • Am I Eligible for the NDIS? A Plain-English Guide

Am I Eligible for the NDIS? A Plain-English Guide

Am I Eligible for the NDIS? A Plain-English Guide

    NDIS Resources2 min read

The NDIS can be life-changing, but working out whether you are eligible can feel confusing. This plain-English guide breaks down the NDIS eligibility criteria so you know where you stand — and what to do next.

    The basic NDIS eligibility criteria

To access the NDIS, you generally need to meet all of the following:

    • Age — you are under 65 years old when you first apply.
    • Residency — you are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold an eligible Protected Special Category Visa.
    • Disability or early intervention — you have a permanent and significant disability, or you need early intervention support.

    The disability requirements explained

A “permanent and significant” disability is one that is likely to be lifelong and substantially affects how you manage everyday activities — like communication, mobility, self-care or social interaction. The NDIS looks at how your disability affects your daily life, not just the diagnosis itself.

    The early intervention pathway

You may also qualify through early intervention if getting support now would reduce your future needs — for example, for a child with developmental delay. Early support can make a real difference to long-term independence.

    How to apply

You apply by making an Access Request, either by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or by completing an Access Request Form. You will be asked for evidence of your disability from a treating health professional. If you are unsure, our team can help you understand the process — see our NDIS information page.

What if you are not eligible?

If you do not meet the NDIS criteria, there may still be other supports available through your local community and health services. Get in touch and we will point you in the right direction.

    Frequently asked questions

What age can you access the NDIS?

You must be under 65 when you first apply. Children can access support, including through early childhood early intervention.

What evidence do I need to apply?

You will need evidence of your disability from a treating health professional that shows it is permanent and significantly affects your daily life.

Can Glory Care help me apply?

While the NDIS makes the eligibility decision, our team can help you understand the process and what to prepare. Contact us and we will guide you.

NDIS Providers in Alice Springs: How to Choose the Right One

NDIS Providers in Alice Springs: How to Choose the Right One

    NDIS Resources2 min read

Choosing an NDIS provider is one of the most important decisions you will make on your support journey. The right provider does more than deliver services — they understand your goals, respect your culture, and become a genuine partner for you and your family. If you are searching for an NDIS provider in Alice Springs, here is what to look for.

What is a registered NDIS provider?

A registered NDIS provider has been approved by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and meets strict standards for safety, quality and participant rights. Registration matters most if you are NDIA-managed, and it gives every participant added peace of mind that care is delivered to a recognised standard. Glory Care Services is a registered provider serving Alice Springs and Central Australia.

Why local matters in Central Australia

Alice Springs is a unique community, and support works best when your provider truly knows the region — the distances, the services, and the cultural diversity of the people who live here. A local provider can respond quickly, build face-to-face relationships, and connect you with the right community supports.

What to look for in an NDIS provider

    • Registration and quality — confirm they are a registered NDIS provider with experienced, qualified workers.
    • The right services — make sure they offer what you need, from personal care to community nursing and community participation.
    • Cultural responsiveness — ask whether they can support your language and culture. Glory Care offers interpreting in Kiswahili, Sudanese Arabic and Dinka.
    • Flexibility — your needs change, so your provider should adapt support around your life, not the other way around.
    • Clear communication — you should always know who to call and feel heard.

Questions to ask a potential provider

    • Are you a registered NDIS provider, and which supports do you deliver?
    • How do you match support workers to participants?
    • Can you support my cultural and language needs?
    • How quickly can support start, and how do you handle changes?

Once you have answers you are comfortable with, the next step is easy. Learn how to get started or contact our team for a friendly, no-pressure chat.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need a registered NDIS provider?

Yes. Glory Care Services is a registered NDIS provider based at 14/19 Elliott Street, Alice Springs NT 0870, supporting participants across the Alice Springs region and Central Australia.
